From the sound of silence to the sound of freedom…
Last Friday evening was special for the students of LTR as it marked the culmination of an important unit of work entitled “From the sound of silence to the sound of freedom”.
This took the form of a dramatisation which was presented in the auditorium of the archaeological museum D. Diogo de Sousa.

The unit of work comprised of three distinct phases. The first stage entailed the preparation of a multi-media presentation dealing with the events surrounding the April revolution and the subsequent consequences. A cronological time line was created. It traced all significant events beginning with the establishment of the military dictatorship and only concluded in the present day. The second phase acknowledged the contribution of literature in the revolutionary movement. This stage took the form of an exploration of the poetry of intervention.

Each group had to choose a well known poem of intervention which was then then analysed and critiqued. These first two stages came to a conclusion with the dramatic re-enactment of all the key events of the revolution. It must be said that once again the students of CLIB have risen to the challenge. Such an “Odyssey of work” was undertaken with rigour and professionalism and they thoroughly deserved the recognition they received from all parents, guardians and friends who were there in the auditorium.

Overall this has proved to be a very rewarding unit of work for so many different reasons. Our students are certainly more informed of many important events in the recent history of Portugal. They have improved their oral and written expression and have further developed their capacity to be able to interpret, analyse and evaluate historical events.
