| CLIB supports Habitat for Humanity Mozambique |
| In 2008 we will be taking the opportunity to become more involved in the wider global community, by engaging all members of the CLIB community in a very worthwhile project 'CLIB supports Habitat for Humanity in Mozambique'. One of our underlying philosophies is community work. |
| It is essential that as our students grow they become more aware and active working with the community. From the age of 16 our students will be invited to join a team of CLIB community members to help build houses for members of the Braga community in need. The summer of 2008 will see the first CLIB students constructing houses in Braga. Habitat are supported annually by several International Schools from around the world whose students come to Braga to help in this very worthwhile project. Our students have already been actively socialising with these students during their visits and we will continue to do so this year. It is expected that in the future our 18 year old students will be able to take part in a Habitat for Humanity initiative overseas, and with this in mind we have enrolled five adult members of our CLIB community to participate in one such project this year in Mozambique. In order to participate in this project each individual must raise sponsorship to cover the cost of the transportation, accommodation, donation to Habitat and other project related expenses. We have guaranteed the funds needed for three participants, but really need help in raising additional funds to send the other two. This project we are involved in called “Global Village from Portugal to Mozambique” is targeted specifically at vulnerable orphaned children (the majority of whom are HIV positive) although it is also intended to strengthen the local community. Habitat are organising a team of 13 individuals to travel in April and spend two weeks working on the construction. We will be located in Massaca in Mozambique where Habitat build a house in 5 days. We will be working on these houses with the families that will eventually live in them, working in an active partnership to improve the lives of these vulnerable families. Habitat, do not ask for any financial contribution from these families and hope to raise sufficient funds to enable these deprived children and adults the opportunity to live in a clean and healthy environment. This project will have a tremendous impact on the economic welfare of small communities and our privileged CLIB community embraced this initiative wholeheartedly. In order to make this a success we need our students’ support in creating initiatives to help us raise the necessary funds from the local community throughout Braga and beyond, donating gifts that we can use in a Raffle and in the donation of small gifts that we could take to Mozambique with us to give to the children, and above all else we need moral support for this worthwhile cause. |
