Harvest Festival
On Friday 17th November 2008, CLIB’s Lower School gathered for its annual Harvest Festival. In keeping with our celebration of harvest and this special time of year, it was a beautiful Autumnal morning. The beautiful exhibition of Nursery and Form 2 work on stage really set the scene.
Nursery opened the assembly and delighted us all with their re-enactment of “The Little Old Lady Who wasn’t Afraid of Anything”. Mafalda Herraez took centre stage as the little old lady and the students did themselves proud acting the parts of the ‘clopping’ shoes, the ‘shaking’ shirt, the ‘wiggling’ trousers, the ‘clapping’ gloves, the ‘nodding’ hat, pumpkin head and scarecrow!
Reception and Form 1 students entertained us with poems, story-telling and singing. They were all so confident and self-assured on stage and did their teachers and parents proud.
Form 2 and 3 focused on ‘the story of bread’ and taught everyone about the history of bread. They described different types of bread to us and they even told us how they had made bread in school the day before.
At the end of the assembly, they were so professional, standing at the door with baskets full of bread for us all to taste. Their bread looked so professional and tasted delicious. Who knows? Many we have some future chefs among us?
It was clear to all that Form 4 students are the oldest students in lower school. They looked so responsible when they took their positions to recite the haiku poems that they had written in English and Portuguese. Their posture was mature and their projection first class. They recited their poems with expression and painted beautiful autumnal pictures with their words.
Lower School students left singing that morning… “oh, when the leaves come falling down…”, while Miss Carvalho accompanied their song tirelessly!
We are all so proud of the confidence and talent of our students. The atmosphere was one of respect and fun.
The best treat of the day was after lunch when all of the students were allowed to choose one of the scrumptious desserts that parents had contributed for our celebration. The service was excellent, thanks to a group of lovely mothers who took charge of the desserts!
It was definitely an occasion to remember and we look forward to sharing many more harvest celebrations together.
