Visit to Mosteiro da Batalha The Portuguese Studies department organized a visit to the Aljubarrota Interpretation Centre and to the Batalha Monastery, on the 11th of December. The Battle of Aljubarrota is, without doubt, one of the moments of Portuguese History that showcases the heroic spirit of the Portuguese people. So that CLIB students were able to understand the magnitude and significance of the battle, the Portuguese Studies department organized a visit to the Aljubarrota Interpretation Centre and to the Batalha Monastery, on the 11th of December. The long trip was rewarding as soon as everyone arrived at the Aljubarrota Interpretation Centre, as they were allowed to explore the legendary land, walked on in the past by D. Nuno Álvares Pereira and D. João I. The emotion of the battle was intensified by the brilliant explanations given by the guides provided by the centre, and with the magnificent multimedia show that allowed all students to feel as if they had been part of the middle ages and the battle of 1385. In the afternoon, which was less military in nature, the young historians enriched their cultural heritage, by admiring the superb Batalha Monastery, which was built after the surprising victory of the Portuguese. The day was long and tiring. However, the students unanimously agreed that they would like to repeat the activity. Back
